Contents |
Prerequisites
Following is required to reset the appliance to factory default:
- USB stick to load CloneZilla (minimum size 4GB)
- Temporary storage on PC to download image onto (minimum size 2GB+)
The USB stick will be made bootable and will have CloneZilla onto it. CloneZilla is a tool that allows to write a Hard Disk from an image.
Before resetting the appliance, we recommend to backup the configuration data as the reset will overwrite all data stored on the hard drive. If you can't access the hard disk, then you can try following to access the hard drive and backup all data: Bootable_USB
Download
In order to reset the appliance, 1 file needs to be downloaded onto a PC (temporary):
- For the first generation of appliances (500Mhz CPU): Monitoring Appliance Image Installer (1.8GB)
- For the second generation of appliances (1Ghz CPU): Monitoring Appliance Image Installer (1.9GB)
Create a bootable USB stick
Format the USB Stick:
Go to the downloaded file:
Open the file by double clicking on it and select all files:
Copy the selected files onto the USB stick. Depending on your PC and USB stick this may take some time.
When done, go the utils/win32 subfolder on your USB stick.
Double click on the makeboot.exe application. A new window similar as following will open:
Press any key now to make the USB stick bootable.
Enable the Appliance to boot with the USB key
We now need to make sure that the appliance starts with loading the USB stick. For that we need change the BIOS settings.
Plug in the USB key into the Monitoring Appliance before powering it on.
Power the appliance on and immediately go into the Bios. To do so press the DEL key as soon as the PC boots up (if your screen is still blank, then hit it a few times). You will now enter the Bios of the appliance. In here we need to modify the boot sequence.
Go to the Boot menu of the Bios and select Boot Device Priority
Make sure that the USB stick is now set as first Boot Priority
Click on F10 to Save and Exit
The Monitoring Appliance will now restart and should boot from the USB key.
Starting Appliance resetting
The image reset is performed using a tool called Clonezilla. This application allows to write a standard image to a hard drive. The image that we will write is the default factory image of the Monitoring Appliance.
When Clonezilla has been loaded, a screen like following is shown
Hit the Enter button to continue. You will now see command line data which is the Linux agent loading into memory.
Let it run until you see the screen below. Then click on the Enter button to continue.
The system now prompts you to verify that indeed you want to reset the appliance and erase all data on it. If you agree to reset and erase all data, then hit the y key of your keyboard.
The copying of the data is done in 2 steps as the Operating System and Monitoring Software reside on 2 different logical disks (C: and D: drives). When you are ready to start the process, then confirm with the y key of your keyboard
The data is now being written to your appliance. As outlined above, this will be done in 2 steps and you will see 2 screens similar as below
When the copying is done, following message will be shown:
Click on the Enter button to go the next screen. You are now shown options. Select 1 to reboot. When prompted make sure to unplug the USB stick from the Appliance
The appliance will now reboot and is ready with the latest factory install image.
After the reboot you should see the ServersCheck Monitoring Appliance loading screen:
Initial Configuration of Appliance after reset
If you have the Zoom modem with the Appliance then start the Zoom application. Once started reboot the appliance.
