General Settings for Checks

Description

Beside specific settings for each check, one part of setting is the similar for all checks. These are general settings and they are located at the upper part of the form. It is important to fill in these fields for running check successfully.

Definition

In the Check Specific Settings, there are following fields you need to supply with parameters:

  • Unique name of the monitoring rule - The unique name with which the check will be identified in alerts and reports.
  • Device name - This is the name of the computer or some other network device.
  • Monitoring rule group - The group names are defined in the ADMIN SETTINGS option.
  • Perform the rule? - Set to yes when you want this check to be executed, set to no to skip it (or delete it).
  • Only when following rule is OK - This dependency feature allows you to control the sequence of monitoring rules. For example if your Internet Connection goes down you might not want to execute any web monitoring rules.
  • Minimum Service Level for this rule? - The Service Level is indicated in each SLA graph that is created enabling you to monitor when you are below or above your service level.
  • Time span in graph - This is the time span that a graph will cover. Example enter 7 to plot the last seven days; 365 to plot the last year. Default value or the value when you leave it blank is last 2 hours. Weekly and monthly graphs are automatically generated.
  • Output rule in report? - If set to yes then the monitoring rule will be included in the HTML output.
  • Plot graphs? - If set to yes then the graphs will be created for this rule.
  • Number of retries before rule fails? - This is the number of times that ServersCheck will try to execute this monitoring rule before the status is changed to failed.
  • Minimal interval between 2 checks - Minimum time lap between checking this item.
  • Interval when status is down - Minimum time lap between checking this item when the check returned an error.
  • When Not To Check - Time Intervals are in 24h format like following 13:00-14:00 Multiple intervals are to be separated with a ; Example 11:00-11:45;16:05-16:20
  • Remarks - The remarks can be published in the HTML reports - for example to offer additional explanation if a check is down.
