Define MSN Account

You need to define from which account the MSN alerts are being sent. ServersCheck will connect with the account, send a message to the target MSN account and then disconnect again. So for this alerting to work you need 2 accounts. Best is to create a special account for ServersCheck to login with. You also need to make sure that both accounts may send messages to each other; you need to add the "from" MSN account to your list of allowed accounts in the one you will be receiving alerts to.

To set-up MSN alerts, you first need to configure the MSN account from which will be sent alerts. This is configured in the Configuration, General Settings, MSN Account Settings window.

Once this is done, ServersCheck will send MSN alerts from the defined account. You now need to define for your alert to which MSN account the alert should be sent.

Test MSN Alerting

When you configured MSN Alerting you can test your settings on the following way.

  • Go to the Command prompt (Start, Run, Type in the Open field CMD -> Press Enter key
  • Navigate through Command prompt to the ServersCheck folder. (default location is C:\Program Files\ServersCheck)
  • In the Alerts subfolder you will see application alert_msn.exe - This application will help you to test current MSN Alert settings.
  • With MSN settings which you entered in the ServersCheck, in the Command prompt you should type following command (look down at the picture): alert_msn <from msn account> <from password> <to msn account> <text>
  • After that, press Enter key, and if you configured MSN Alerting settings right, one message with entered parameters will be sent at entered MSN account.
