Description

The new NTP (Network Time Protocol) check (release 7.9.0) enables users to monitor their NTP or Time servers. The NTP check will send a UDP packet to the NTP server and verifies if the return data contains some of the data required as per NTP standards. In particular it checks if the returned data contains "Stratum" - one of the elements of a NTP message.

On following website you can find some more information about the NTP protocol: www.ntp.org

How to perform a NTP check

First create a new rule like explained step by step in following help file article: Define Rules

Defining the parameters for the NTP check

In the first field enter the IP address or hostname of the NTP server. You can test it against plublic NTP servers:

- Europe: europe.pool.ntp.org

- North America: north-america.pool.ntp.org

- Oceania: oceania.pool.ntp.org

- South America: south-america.pool.ntp.org

The second field is the UDP port on which the NTP server listens. Default value is 123
