Description
The ORACLE check verifies if a connection can be made to a predefined Oracle database. This check requires that the ORACLE OLE DB driver is installed and a TNS to be defined. When this driver is missing then the Oracle check will return a "Provider not found" error.
The following items are required on a system to use Oracle Provider for OLE DB:
- Windows 98 or Windows NT 4.0
- Access to an Oracle Server (release 7.3.4 or 8i)
- Net8 Client (release 8.1.6)
- Redistributable files provided with Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.1 are required by the provider. These files are available at the Microsoft Web site at: http://www.microsoft.com/data/oledb
An Oracle check can also be performed from an ODBC check. We recommend that you use the ODBC check instead of the Oracle check for Oracle version 9i and higher. Refer to the ODBC page for more information.
Definition
Besides the general settings for each check, which are similar for all checks, there are following specific settings that also need to be established. In the Check Specific Settings, there are following fields you need to supply with parameters:
- Server - The server name as defined in the tnsnames.ora file.
- Username - The username to use to connect to the database.
- Password - The password for the username used to connect to the database.
Returned Results
This check returns one result: could a connection be made to the server.
Graphs
When the graphing option is activated then ServersCheck will produce for this check two graphs: Service Level, Availability.
