Prerequisite
As of release 6.9.4, ServersCheck natively supports sending out SMS text messages using a GSM modem. This functionality has been tested using a Falcom Samba USB GSM, Zoom, Nokia or Huawei modems. Other GSM modems may work as well.
The modem has to be tested prior to use using the manufacturer's modem application.
Configure GSM Modem in the ServersCheck Monitoring Software
Now that we know that the GSM modem works with the tester application, it is time to configure the ServersCheck Monitoring Software for it.
Open the ServersCheck Monitoring Software and click Configuration in the top orange menu. Then go to the block Configure Alert Settings as shown above. In that block select the SMS Settings option.
In the next screen perform the following actions:
- Select as an option GSM modem.
- Select the COM port to which the GSM modem is attached from the list.
- Enter the SMSC number.
- Click on SAVE SETTINGS and then click the TEST SETTINGS button
Now enter your mobile phone number and click on the button. It may take some time before the message arrives.
If you do not receive the message, then check the following directory for a log file:
C:\Program Files\ServersCheck_Monitoring\alerts\alert_activity
Authorized Users List
If a number is set in the authorized number field, then only that number is allowed to send SMS messages to the modem. All others will be ignored.
A number can be:
- the full number. This has to be in international format but without the "+" plus sign
- a part of a number. If you have a range whereby all mobile numbers have 1234 for in it, then you could set it to 1234. All inbound SMS messages with "1234" in the sender's number are allowed
Only when Internet is down
As of release 8.0.7 of the ServersCheck Monitoring Software you can have SMS alerts only sent when the Internet connection is down. This makes SMS alerting the fail-over alerting capability for email. It checks the Internet by performing a PING call to "www.google.com"
Notice for AT&T users
By default AT&T SIM's are locked. For that you need to contact AT&T to request that your SIM is being unlocked. This process takes about half an hour to push.
Put the SIM in a regular mobile phone and you should get the message SIM UNLOCK - Select Yes and then the SIM card can be used in any device
